Soft pastel and marker on canvas The inspiration for this painting was to Jacqueline the real breakthrough to her art. She saw a shape in a place where there really was not any figurative image. During the painting of "Energy" ("Énergie"), Jacqueline found out that one of her close friends had breast cancer, which gave her a whole new perspective on her painting. "I initially wanted to name it "Freedom" ("Liberté"), but after I finished it, it felt like the energy and the light in the painting were actually coming out of the woman so I had to change its name.
